Muskingum's Flowery Bank
SSATB a cappella - text by Mary Lackey Williams - English - Medium
‘Twas on Muskingum’s flowery bank near to a wooded glen.
I sat me down to ruminate apart from busy men.
I thought of my sweet childhoods days, gone never to return.
I thought of one long loved – but lost, ‘twas thee my gentle one!
Dost thou remember years agone, when we together met,
And vowed to love forever more, and never to forget
That vow was broken – thou wert false;
And I was left to mourn over my lost and blighted hopes alone!
Roll on! Muskingum’s waves! Roll on!
I would thou wert my grave! for where so calmly could I rest
As ‘neath thy peaceful waves!
There could I lie in death’s embrace more true than thee – I mourn
Till on that great and glorious day
When I Should Be Called Home.*
*Original text” “When Christ should call me home!”
